Description

The technology consists of a simulation tool developed using 3D WebGIS, capable of producing approximate forecasts of the effects of meteorological phenomena that may affect riverbeds in the observed areas. The technology features an analysis platform with graphical representation of the results in the form of three-dimensional animations. The simulation is based on the morphology of the terrain adjacent to the affected riverbed, taking into account elevation to determine the direction of expansion of the water mass. An important aspect of the platform is the extreme speed of the simulation resolution, which allows the tool to be used in real time. This approach is essential for making rapid and informed decisions, thus reducing response times and improving emergency management on the ground, with a potential positive impact on population safety and infrastructure protection.

Description of innovative features / Competitive advantages

The main innovative features are the high speed of the simulation execution, which is performed entirely on the front end, thus eliminating the need for intensive server-side computing infrastructure. These speed and independence allow for use in the prevention and planning phases, as well as in the field in the event of a lack of broadband connection to the computing servers. The platform offers a user-friendly interface, allowing even non-scientifically trained personnel to launch and read the simulation results. Another important feature is the use of an automatic input data retrieval system using resources available online on the INGV Tinitaly portal, queried using WCS (Web Coverage System) technology.
