The proposed technology is built upon optical sensors based on Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBG). An FBG is an intrinsic optical fiber sensor that reflects light guided through the fiber core within a very narrow wavelength band (~0.3 nm). Mechanical strain and temperature variations cause a shift in the reflected wavelength, which can be detected with high precision.
