Brain Digital Twins represent the most advanced multiscale computational modelling technology for personalized and precision medicine. Brain Digital Twins allow you to study the normal and pathological brain functions of individual neurological and psychiatric subjects. Brain Digital Twins are based on detailed clinical, neuropsychological and instrumental analyses (nuclear magnetic resonance imaging and electroencephalography) and allow to extract information not otherwise detectable through the diagnostic evaluation about synaptic efficiency, excitation/inhibition ratio, and connectivity of brain circuits. Brain Digital Twins can be used to improve diagnosis and predict disease evolution and to define the most appropriate pharmacological and interventional approach, supporting clinical decisions and improving patient profiling.
For the first time in Italy we have developed the Brain Digital Twin, i.e. a computational model that replicates in detail the brain functions of individual subjects and allows us to identify their alterations during neurological and psychiatric diseases. This approach exploits some of the most advanced technologies in computational neuroscience: data obtained from nuclear magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are used to reconstruct the brain's system of connections and functional models of brain areas reproduce their structural and functional characteristics. Digital Brain Twin simulations allow you to extract key parameters that cannot be obtained with other methods, improving patient profiling and supporting clinical and therapeutic decisions, diagnosis and prognosis.
